After the Giant Black Marlin Season, which ends in December, Viking II moves south and follows the fishing action to the Brisbane / Gold Coast Area (Viking II's home port) and the Sydney / Port Stephens area. The Gold Coast is a 1 hour drive south of Brisbane and Port Stephens is a 2 and a haf hour drive north of Sydney. it is a picturesque tourist town which boasts outstanding waterways and beautiful beaches. It has sufficient infrastructure to cover the most discerning angler and boasts world class accommodation, restaurants, golf courses and many other tourist attractions to keep the whole family entertained. Port Stephens is becoming recognize world wide as a light and medium tackle destination for black, blue and striped marlin. Blue marlin up to 600lb are not uncommon and the biggest blue marlin caught here so far has tipped the scales at close 900lbs. A serious saltwater fly fishing industry has quickly been established due to the results over previous years. More world records on saltwater fly have been produced from the waters off Port Stephens than any other world fishing destination. Recently 4 ultra-light world records were also achieved from Port Stephens. Viking II is based in Port Stephens between January and the end of April.
